Mammut gets flexible Like your favorite yoga class, the Mammut Finesse offers unparalleled flexibility. Thanks to an innovative sheath design that Mammut has dubbed Double twist technology, the Finesse is easily molded, maneuvered, and handled for easy clipping and knotting. Double twist technology uses four rather than two sheath twines in parallel so the increased flexibility doesn’t result in a decrease of durability; plus, the Double twist design results in a unique and beautiful design that is as pleasant to look at as it is to handle. A rope of this high of caliber is of course equipped with a high quality dry treatment that ensures protection from dirt and water. The Mammut Finesse is ideal for classical alpinism and mixed climbing. Mammut’s DRY coating is a key feature for climbing ice--preventing water saturation and freezing--and also offers several other advantages over untreated ropes in any conditions: This coating increases the rope’s durability under harsh conditions by keeping grime out between washes. and improves handling characteristics over the life of a rope. Additionally, Mammut’s new DRY coating dramatically increases a rope’s abrasion resistance for safer climbing in any environment. Mammut’s DRY ropes meet or exceed the new UIAA Dry standards; which require ropes to absorb no more than 5% of the rope’s weight in water after being subject to light abrasion and submerged in water for 15 minutes. Every Mammut rope is set apart by Swiss quality and incredible dependability. While Mammut’s engineer’s continue to develop and implement unique design solutions that lead to award winning ropes, there are several details that set each Mammut rope apart from the crowd. As ropes are used, the outer sheath and inner core slip relative to each other; while this movement is normal it can become a real problem when sheath and core become separated at the ropes end and fray. Mammut welds the ends of their ropes with an ultrasonic process to create a permanent bond, ensuring that rope ends will never fray. Depending on the weather, environment, and use, a rope can shrink from 5 to 10%. To guarantee that all the rope length you need is there when you need it, Mammut cuts their ropes 2.5% longer than indicated. Finally, because you trust your life to a rope, Mammut discloses all the information you may want to know about any given rope. Each rope contains a ribbon with the most important rope data integrated in the rope’s core: manufacturer, testing standards, date of manufacture, UIAA certificate and CE test centre – a permanent reminder of high quality Swiss workmanship.
