A no compromise backcountry boot Positioned next to the Scarpa Freedom SL boots, the women’s specific Gea RS offers improved touring without sacrificing the ability to drive big skis with precision. With a 37 degree range of cuff motion, the Gea RS offers plenty of motion for all but those who have an exceptionally long stride. The Gea RS has ten degrees more movement that the Freedom. To keep this range of motion unhindered, the Gea RS is fitted with an Intuition Pro Tour liner that offers moldable comfort and flex zones for touring. When the skinning turns into walking, the Gea RS has you covered with a sticky vibram Cayman rubber sole and rockered profile for an easy stride. Despite it’s light weight and touring prowess, the Gea RS really rips on the downhill. Four buckles and a huge power strap ensure a fit that allows you to get all the power from the boots 120 index flex. Don’t be fooled by the high flex index,, however, as power is delivered smoothly and with progressive flex. Laterally, the Gea RS is stiff enough to hang with much heavier boots. The Gea RS’s progressive flex is delivered, in part, thanks to the Axial Alpine Pebax tongue. Along with a smooth flex, this tongue cinches down more uniformly than overlapping designs for a comfortable yet high performance fit. Since this tongue is hinged to the boot toes, it pivots away from the boot for super easy entry and exit. For a powerful boot that tours exceptionally well for it’s power, put the Gea RS on your short list. Note; the Gea RS is identical to the men’s Maestrale RS with the exception of a lower cuff and women’s specific fit.
